Senior Meal Programs
Service Definition
Home Delivered Meals
This program is for qualified individuals to
receive meals in their home. The meal must comply with the Dietary
Guidelines for Americans and provides a minimum of 33 and 1/3 percent
of the current daily Recommended Dietary Allowances as established
by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Research Council
of the National Academy of Sciences.
How Service is Provided
Home Delivered Meals: Area Agency on Aging funds two home
delivered meal (HDM) programs located in Wasco and Sherman Counties.
The home delivered meal program is designed to provide nutritious
meals along with safety checks for their clients. Meals are delivered
to cover one meal per day seven days per week. Dedicated volunteers
deliver the meals to eligible home bound individuals. The program
that delivers five days per week provides a personal contact that
helps to assure the client is safe. Some drivers have been volunteer
drivers for years. If the volunteer driver notices a difference
in the client, they inform the appropriate people to follow up on
any concerns they might have. Volunteer drivers are always needed.
To learn more about becoming a volunteer, call one of the numbers
listed below. Eligibility for home delivered meals is determined
by in-home assessments completed on an annual basis. Anyone over
the age of sixty that is home bound (i.e. does not leave their home
in regular circumstances), and cannot prepare three meals a day
on their own, is eligible to receive home delivered meals.
